Steve & Marie's Wedding at Ye Olde England Inne, Stowe, Vermont. Best day, EVER!
Sunday 8 November 1998
Foxborough, MA
Atlanta Falcons at New England Patriots
Just over a week after our Wedding in Stowe, VT we were enjoying our Honeymoon & we travelled to Foxborough, MA from
Boston via the special gameday train service. Tickets had been purchased via phone from the UK months in advance. As this
was the first ever 'live' Patriots game since becoming a Pats Fan during 1985, anticipation was high. After a seemingly never
ending train journey was arrived at the stadium train station only 50 minutes before kick-off, we then realised that the train
wasn't the best travel option for time to take in the atmosphere outside the stadium. Hastily we made our way to the find
the 'Will Call' ticket window & our tickets were there waiting for collection.
Straight into the Foxborough stadium entrance, grabbed a quick soda & hotdog, then to a concourse Patriots shop for
some merchandise. All too soon we had to find our sideline seats which were allocated one row apart, not ideal for a Honeymooning
couple. Luckily a friendly family were sitting next to me & agreed for their son to swap seats with my new wife, so we
could sit together. They seemed very surprised to find Pats fans sitting next to them from the UK as all games for the '98
season we're sell outs! We told them that there was no way we were going to be New England for the first time ever & not
be able to see a Pats game! (Plus I was on the phone from the UK the moment single game tickets were scheduled to go on sale
in July!)
Foxboro stadium was not, it's fair to say, 'state of the art', but the view of the game was excellent, plus this was the
Patriots so who cared! The game itself was very one sided unfortunately towards the visiting Falcons. But, we were at Foxboro,
we witness Adam Vinatieri kick a Field Goal plus the classic pairing of Drew Bledsoe & Ben Coates scoring a Touchdown
in the endzone closest to our vantage point. Thirteen years a Patriots Fan & the final game score was Falcons 41 Patriots
10, Doh! But, we did not worry too much about the result as the experience of seeing the Patriots 'live' was worth the visit
in itself. Caught the train from Foxboro to Boston soon after the end of the game, another slow train ride back to the city.
Back to our hotel in the evening tired but pleased with the day overall regardless of the result. GO PATS!
Now to plan a return visit to Foxborough to see the highly rated 'new' Gillette stadium......
